Patina Finish (synthetic sponge)

The PATINA style will give an aged look to your walls, adding charm and warmth to your interior.

Step 1 — Preparation

  • Clean surface if necessary.

Step 2 — Base Color

  • Using a roller, apply a Pittsburgh® Paints latex paint Belgian Waffle 215-3 as a base color.

  • Allow to dry 6 to 8 hours.

Step 3 — Texture

  • In a plastic container, blend 3 parts Clear Blending Glaze to 1 part eggshell finish latex paint, color Midas Touch 213-7.

  • Pour into a pan.

  • Dip the edges of your first damp synthetic sponge into the tinted glaze and blot any excess onto pan.

  • Lightly dab sponge on the wall in a consistent pattern. Follow with a second, barely damp sponge and pounce the wall surface with a light, quick motion.

  • Continue dabbing, leaving an 8 in edge from the previously covered area, and start again with the second sponge.

  • Repeat the process until you cover the entire wall.

  • The glaze allows for an "open time" (time while glaze is still wet and can be manipulated) of approximately 15 minutes. When the sponge becomes saturated with glaze, rinse in water and wring out well.

  • If a second coat of glaze is needed to achieve the desired effect, allow the first coat to dry completely, then repeat the above application steps.

  • Allow 6 to 8 hours to dry.
