THE SENSUAL HOME: A REMODELING TALE IN THREE PARTS
Part two: the kitchen
In the previous chronicle, I presented a living room that had undergone a complete metamorphosis thanks to designer Monica Bussoli. Her client absolutely loved the effect of the transformation and the space which was freed up. This time, I want to look at Monica’s ideas for creating an equally elegant kitchen and dining area next to the living room.
Monica wanted to carry the calm of the living room through to the dining area by playing with colors, light and textured surfaces. Although the client’s old kitchen was very traditional, it now presents a more contemporary look thanks to a marriage of glass, steel, and granite. In the kitchen, Monica selected a pale floor color in order to lighten the surrounding space. She then added a projecting countertop that has proved very useful and which links the two spaces.
This stripped down style may seem a little cold, and this is where color plays such a vital role. The color of the wall (316-4 Golden Ecru, from the Leather, Stone & Wood™ Equestrian Chic LSW-5 Harmony) in a flat finish, a neutral earthy tone with a hint of burnished gold, warms up this modern space and creates an excellent background for these timeless accessories. To unify this space, the large window in the kitchen is equipped with the same shutters as in the living room, while the glass-topped table, ceiling lighting, modern stools, and black leather chairs blend perfectly with the darker shade of the modern countertop. The result: a spacious, contemporary, and attractive room, enlivened by an abundance of natural light.
Monica tells us that since the metamorphosis took place, her client’s tastes have evolved in all areas of life. She loves to stay home and play the hostess. She has gone right through every cupboard, revised her wardrobe and simplified her daily schedule. And best of all, her new home provides her with daily inspiration.
Maybe it’s your turn to play the same game?
Next and last step: the bedroom.
