ARE YOU READY FOR BOLD COLOR?

The simplest way to transform your décor is with color, and making a bold, colorful statement is easiest done with paint. Bold style is often about color.

Good design, like artwork, is about successful compositions. Imagine creating your vignette is like creating a painting; you are looking to create balance in a pleasing visual, using walls, furnishings and accessories. Bold wall color means a stronger statement – and a more daring composition.

The current trend towards graphic style allows you to use painters’ tape and a level for pure, bold effect. To dramatically transform your look, you can insert stripes, blocks or lines to make a plain space truly interesting with only limited accessories. For pure effect, try using one bold shade with white, and ensure your bold color is linked to your room by repeating it in some of your accessories.

Bold color is a terrific way to both highlight a feature wall and incorporate trend colors into your décor. With this, minor effort adds up to big impact. If you feel more confident with symmetry, try simple color blocks behind fireplaces, vanities or headboards to create drama on those feature walls.

If these photos have captured your imagination… it is likely you are a dynamic personality… and you would love to flaunt that with color!

You are ready for bold color if:

  • you have an outgoing, dynamic personality
  • you would love to make a strong, identifiable statement with your décor
  • when you see a new restaurant you often say “wow! I love the color!”
  • you have a paint brush, tape, a level and matte paint!
Tips to remember when working with bold color:
  • ultra matte paint is the ideal finish to show off color. (The more shine there is, the more imperfections you will see)
  • bold colors will appear darker or more intense on the wall than they do on a small chip
  • test it! do a large test sheet and the time test - view your color in all light, morning, noon and night. Live with it over a few days to make sure you love it.
  • if you are going to go bold, then, really go for it! (There is no such thing as a pale red!)
  • and remember… the next time a new color strikes your fancy… it’s the easiest thing to change!
